iCemetery, an active project,  allows the general public access to grave data for various cemeteries across Canada.  Users can search for loved ones in participating cemeteries and see the exact GPS location of the grave via a Google Maps integration.

Begun in 2011, the project has expanded from an initial trial of a single cemetery dataset in central Vancouver to host cemetery data from six location across Canada.

The project consists of a server-side component written in Ruby which makes a small API service available to the hybrid native iOS/Android apps.  The apps are written in javascript/CSS/HTML with an early version of the jQuery Mobile platform.

Grave Record Details Page

Detailed data is available for individual grave records.  For many records the GPS coordinates are included and the grave can be seen on a map.

Map Page

An integration with Google Maps allows the user to see the grave marker on a maps page along with the user’s current location.
